Is Dragon Copilot Available for Veradigm?

Last updated / Reviewed by Clunic Research Team

Quick answer

Not as a Microsoft published integration. Microsoft's Dragon Copilot documentation names Epic, Oracle Health, athenahealth, MEDITECH and eClinicalWorks; it does not name Veradigm. What exists is a workaround: reseller listings on the Veradigm App Expo from Clinically Speaking, and partner tools that move the finished note into any EHR that accepts text. Clinicians on Veradigm can use Dragon Copilot, but the note does not arrive through a documented API.

Is Dragon Copilot available for Veradigm?

You can buy it and use it there. What you cannot get, as of September 2026, is a Microsoft documented integration. Microsoft's own material for Dragon Copilot, the product that absorbed DAX Copilot and Dragon Medical One, describes embedded integrations with Epic, Oracle Health, athenahealth, MEDITECH and eClinicalWorks. Veradigm is not on that list, and neither is Allscripts, the name most people still search for.

What does exist is a set of workarounds. The Veradigm App Expo carries listings titled "DAX Copilot by Clinically Speaking" and "Dragon Copilot by Clinically Speaking", compatible with Veradigm EHR. Clinically Speaking is a Nuance reseller and implementation partner, not Microsoft, and the listings describe a reseller's packaging of the product for Veradigm practices. Separately, partner tooling such as eDist's CNEX connector and reseller pages describe Dragon Copilot working with "any EHR that accepts text input" and transferring documentation to Allscripts "using simple voice commands". That is an accurate description of how a dictation product has always reached an unsupported EHR: the cursor is in a field and text goes into it.

The site records this pairing as a workaround for that reason. It is honest rather than dismissive. Dragon Copilot on Veradigm works for a clinician who is happy to review the note in the Dragon app and place it into the chart. It does not read the Veradigm schedule, does not know which encounter is open, and does not write into named sections or discrete fields through an API anyone has published. The Veradigm integration guide explains why the ecosystem is thin on this platform, and this pairing is the clearest example.

How does Dragon Copilot reach Veradigm, technically?

Three paths, none of them a Microsoft integration with Veradigm's APIs.

PathWho provides itWhat it doesWhat it does not do
Text insertionDragon Copilot itselfPlaces the reviewed note at the cursor in any Windows or web fieldNo schedule sync, no section mapping, no discrete data
Reseller packagingClinically Speaking, listed on the App ExpoSells, configures and supports Dragon Copilot for Veradigm practicesNot a Microsoft or Veradigm certified API integration on the public record
Partner connectoreDist CNEX and similarMoves Dragon Copilot output into supported ambulatory EHR workflowsA third party dependency with its own contract and support

For contrast, Veradigm publishes exactly how a vendor could build a real integration. Certified FHIR R4 APIs with SMART App Launch are free through a Veradigm Connect open account. The proprietary Unity API runs on paid integrator memberships with published tiers, a certification fee and an annual per site API fee. Heidi Health has published a Veradigm integration on one of those paths; Microsoft has not. Given Microsoft's scale, that is a commercial choice about where Veradigm sits in its priorities rather than a technical barrier, and it is reasonable to ask your Microsoft or reseller contact whether a documented Veradigm integration is on the roadmap and to get the answer in writing.

Where a reseller or connector is involved, it becomes a party to your deployment. Ask whether it holds a Veradigm Connect membership and at which tier, whether the App Expo listing is certified or self reported, and what happens to your workflow if the reseller relationship ends. Our EHR integration questions post covers the dependency questions in detail.

What does Dragon Copilot actually do in a Veradigm practice?

The ambient part works exactly as it does anywhere else. The clinician records the visit on the Dragon Copilot mobile app or desktop client, the note is drafted, and the clinician reviews and edits it in Dragon's interface. Dragon Copilot's dictation, commands and note drafting are mature and clinicians generally like them; none of that is the issue.

The issue is the last step. On Epic or athenahealth the note arrives in the right encounter, in the right sections, sometimes with discrete data, because Microsoft built that. On Veradigm the clinician opens the encounter, puts the cursor in the note field, and inserts the text, or a connector does the equivalent. That means: a second application open throughout the day; the risk of inserting into the wrong patient's chart, which is a real safety event and should be in your risk register; no structured data; and a manual step per encounter that eats into whatever time the drafting saved.

Measure it rather than assume. Time the full loop from end of visit to signed note in Veradigm, including the insertion step, for twenty encounters, and compare it with your baseline and with Veradigm's own Ambient Scribe, which is integrated and, since November 2025, suggests ICD-10 codes. The ROI calculator will take a per encounter manual step as an input. The ambient scribe use case page explains how to set up a fair side by side.

What does your IT and compliance team have to approve?

  • Business associate agreement. With Microsoft for Dragon Copilot, and separately with any reseller or connector vendor that touches note content. Two or three BAAs where a native integration would need one.
  • Wrong chart controls. Because the insertion step is manual or cursor based, define the check a clinician performs before inserting, and log wrong chart events. This is the single biggest risk of a text input workaround.
  • Connector security. If a partner connector is used, what it stores, where, for how long, and how it authenticates to Veradigm.
  • Device and data residency. Where audio and transcripts are processed and stored, whether your data trains shared models, and retention at termination. The HIPAA and AI compliance page has the questions in order.
  • Microsoft agreement terms. Dragon Copilot is often bundled into an existing Microsoft or Dragon agreement; confirm the licence covers ambient capture for your clinician count and what the renewal uplift is.
  • Exit path. Because there is no integration, exit is easy technically and the question is only the licence term. Keep it short.

The HIPAA compliant AI scribe checklist covers the rest, and it applies to the reseller as much as to Microsoft.

What are the known gaps and open questions?

The integration itself is the gap, and everything else follows from it. No schedule sync, no encounter context, no section mapping, no discrete write back, no launch inside the chart. Not published by Microsoft for Veradigm. Checked September 2026.

Roadmap is the second. Microsoft has extended Dragon Copilot integrations steadily; whether Veradigm is next is unknown and the reseller will not know either. Ask Microsoft directly, in writing, and treat any answer that is not a dated commitment as no.

Pricing is the third. Dragon Copilot is priced on request through Microsoft or a reseller and is often folded into a wider Microsoft agreement, which makes the per clinician number hard to isolate. Not published. Checked September 2026. Dragon Copilot pricing covers what can be established and how to unbundle it.

The fourth is the alternative on your own platform. Veradigm Ambient Scribe is integrated, sold by your EHR vendor, and now includes coding suggestions that need governance. Heidi has a published integration with sectioned write back. Both are worth testing before accepting a text input workaround from a much larger vendor. The scribe comparison sets out the integration evidence for each.

What should you ask before you sign?

  • Is there a Microsoft published Dragon Copilot integration for Veradigm EHR, and if not, is one on a dated roadmap?
  • Exactly how does the note get from Dragon Copilot into the Veradigm encounter in the proposed deployment, and who supports that step?
  • If a reseller or connector is involved, does it hold a Veradigm Connect membership, at which tier, and is its App Expo listing certified or self reported?
  • What controls prevent insertion into the wrong patient's chart, and how are events logged?
  • How many BAAs does the deployment require, and with whom?
  • What is the per clinician price, isolated from any wider Microsoft agreement, and the renewal cap?
  • Which two Veradigm EHR practices, not Altera Sunrise or TouchWorks, can we call about the full loop time?

Ask the same questions of Veradigm Ambient Scribe and of Heidi on Veradigm, and put the three answers side by side.

What does an independent review add?

The pull towards Dragon Copilot on Veradigm is usually institutional: clinicians already know Dragon, the Microsoft agreement already exists, and a reseller is offering to make it work. Those are real considerations and they are not the same as an integration. A practice that signs a multi year Dragon Copilot licence on Veradigm is buying a workaround with a manual step per encounter, and it should do so knowingly, against a measured comparison with the integrated options.

Our vendor selection engagement runs that comparison on your encounters, isolates the Dragon Copilot price from the wider Microsoft agreement, checks the reseller's Veradigm standing, and puts the wrong chart risk into your governance framework. If you already run Dragon and want to know whether to wait for a native integration or move, an AI readiness audit gives you the baseline to decide against. Questions we get asked

Does Dragon Copilot integrate with Veradigm?

Not through a Microsoft published integration as of September 2026. Microsoft documents Epic, Oracle Health, athenahealth, MEDITECH and eClinicalWorks for Dragon Copilot and does not name Veradigm. It can be used on Veradigm through text insertion, a reseller package or a partner connector, which is why this site records the pairing as a workaround.

Does DAX Copilot work with Allscripts?

DAX Copilot became part of Dragon Copilot, and Allscripts became Veradigm in 2023 after selling its hospital business to Altera. Reseller material describes DAX or Dragon Copilot transferring notes into Allscripts by voice command or text input. That is a workaround, not an API integration, and it applies to Veradigm EHR; if you run Sunrise or TouchWorks you are an Altera customer with a different question. See the Veradigm guide.

What is the Dragon Copilot listing on the Veradigm App Expo?

The listings are by Clinically Speaking, a Nuance reseller and implementation partner, and describe its packaging of DAX Copilot and Dragon Copilot for Veradigm EHR practices. They are not Microsoft listings. Ask the reseller whether the listing is Veradigm certified or self reported and which access path it uses.

How does Dragon Copilot compare with Veradigm Ambient Scribe?

Veradigm's own scribe is integrated into the encounter and, since November 2025, suggests ICD-10 codes and supports multi language capture. Dragon Copilot has a stronger dictation heritage but no documented Veradigm integration, so each note needs a manual insertion step. Time the full loop for twenty encounters on each before deciding. The ambient scribe use case page explains the pilot design.

How much does Dragon Copilot cost on Veradigm?

Pricing is on request through Microsoft or a reseller and is often bundled with an existing Dragon or Microsoft agreement, which hides the per clinician figure. Ask for it isolated, with the renewal cap, and add any reseller or connector fees. Dragon Copilot pricing covers how to unbundle it.

Will Microsoft add a native Veradigm integration?

Not published. Microsoft has extended Dragon Copilot to several EHRs over time, but there is no public commitment for Veradigm as of September 2026. Ask your Microsoft contact for a dated answer in writing and plan on the basis that the workaround is what you are buying.
